3.2.8. DrayTek Vigor 2900V - broadband security voip router

Vigor 2900V is a broadband security voip router. It is a good Internet solution for your LAN that provides features like high-performance firewall, security, VPN. It has a RJ-45 connector for WAN connection to Cable/DSL modem that supports 10Mbps and 100Mbps networks, four more RJ-45 connectors for PC’s or LAN connection, two RJ-11 connectors (FXS connectors) for PSTN telephone lines, UBS connector for printer and power-supply adapter.



Once you connect the device you can adjust the settings from the web interface. The default IP address is 192.168.1.1. If you are not in this network just add some address from within the network and try again to open http://192.168.1.1 in a browser. A pop-up login window will appear where enter username and password. The default values are null, so if you are using the device for first time just click OK.

The Main Menu will appear. Here it is how it looks. Let us start the adjustments from ‘Basic Setup’. Choose first ‘Quick Start Wizard’.



Here is the quick start wizard. First you can set a password, if you do not want a password leave the fields empty.



Next step is to adjust the time zone you are in. Select yours from the drop-down box. When done click ‘Next’.



Next step is to adjust your Internet settings – IP address, subnet mask, DNS and Gateway that your ISP gave you. Just choose the type of your connection – Static IP, dynamic with DHCP, PPTP or PPPoE. I select static IP and continue clicking next.



Here are my Internet settings.



This was the quick start wizard, to modify something you can go back or click Finish if everything is correct.



From the Basic Setup – Administrator Password Setup you can always change your current password.



Later on in LAN TCP/IP and DHCP settings you can adjust your local network settings. In the router, there are two sets of IP address settings for the LAN interface. The 1st IP address/subnet mask is for private users or NAT users, and the 2nd IP address/subnet mask is for public users. To allow public users, you need to have subscribed to a globally reachable subnet from your ISP. For example, for some DSL accounts, the ISP will assign a few public IP addresses for your local network. You could use one IP address for your router, and the 2nd IP address/subnet mask should be configured with the public IP address. Other local PCs should set the router IP address as the default gateway. When the DSL connection to the ISP has been established, each local PC will directly route to the Internet. So below you can set your LAN and DSL IP addresses and subnet masks besides in Quick Start Wizard.







In System management submenu you can see the Vigor online status, VPN connection management, configure or restore backups, look at the SysLog. You can also update the Vigor’s firmware version with through TFTP server. Here is the time setup.



In Advanced Setup you can adjust the VoIP Setup and to have telephony connection with user from different asterisk within your LAN. In dial plan setup you can add asterisk sip users. They can be from different asterisk computers. Below are the users I have registered on Vigor.



To add new user click on unassigned number and register a user you know with its number, name and Asterisk IP address.



Further on in SIP Related Functions Setup you can register the Asterisk server and the user account you are going to use for placing calls.



In CODEC/RTP/DTMF Setup you can set the default audio codec you would like to use, default DTMF mode and RTP ports.



In the last VoIP submenu – VoIP Connection Management you can see statistics for packets send and received, number of incoming and outgoing calls, time connected etc.
